Question 1

Yes. There is a weight management pathway structured over four tiers:

• Tier 1 – self attempts to lose weight, lifestyle, diet

• Tier 2 – community and primary care support including groups such as Weightwatchers etc

• Tier 3 – medical interventions and support. To access this, there is criteria set out in the Value Based Commissioning Policy about BMI thresholds and evidence of attempts to lose weight at tiers 1 and 2 first. This is to ensure access to medical interventions is safe, necessary and appropriate.

• Tier 4 – surgical interventions and procedures. To access this, there is criteria set out in the Value Based Commissioning Policy about BMI thresholds and evidence of attempts to lose weight at tiers 1, 2 and 3 first. This is to ensure access to surgery is safe, necessary and appropriate.

Question 3

The ICB currently has no plans for establishing Neighbourhood Health Centres as defined in the 10 Year Plan.   We await national guidance on requirements and sources of funding. There are no Health Innovation Partnerships in place.

Question 4

There are 2 nationally commissioned/funded weight management programmes for adults. The ICB does not currently commission or fund any additional local adult weight management services. 

There are currently no agreed plans for any changes under the Neighbourhood Health Centre Framework.
